The aim of this course is to provide participants with a foundational understanding of ABA behavior change procedures and their effective application in supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Learners will develop the skills needed to analyze behavior and implement evidence-based interventions that foster meaningful skill development and improved quality of life.
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), focusing on evidence-based strategies for teaching new skills and reducing challenging behaviors. Participants will learn foundational behavioral principles, the functions of behavior, and the core elements of behavior-analytic interventions. The course covers skill acquisition methods, including discrete-trial teaching (DTT), naturalistic teaching (NET), task analysis, chaining, prompting, shaping, and discrimination training. It also addresses behavior reduction strategies, such as differential reinforcement, extinction, punishment, and antecedent interventions. Through theory, practical examples, and hands-on applications, participants will gain the knowledge and skills to implement ABA interventions ethically and effectively across home, school, and clinical settings.
CURRICULUM
Module 1 – Introduction to Applied Behavior Analysis
Introduction to Applied Behavior Analysis: stimuli, responses, and the three-term contingency; positive and negative reinforcement (including schedules and dimensions); common functions of behavior; elementary verbal operants (mand, tact, echoic, intraverbal); and the main phases of behavior-analytic interventions (baseline, intervention, generalization, and maintenance).
Module 2 – Skill Acquisition
Skill Acquisition: Discrete-Trial Teaching (DTT); Naturalistic Teaching (including incidental teaching and Natural Environment Training, NET); task analysis and chaining procedures (forward, backward, total task); stimulus and response prompts (errorless teaching, least-to-most prompting, most-to-least prompting, stimulus fading); discrimination training; and shaping.
Module 3 – Behavior Reduction
Behavior Reduction: differential reinforcement procedures (e.g., DRO, DRA); extinction; punishment (overview and ethics); and antecedent interventions (e.g., noncontingent reinforcement, high-probability request sequences, choice-making, and activity schedules).
CERTIFICATION
At the end of the Erasmus training course, all participants receive official documentation confirming their successful completion of the programme. Each participant is awarded a Certificate of Attendance, issued by the organising institution, which verifies the learning outcomes achieved, the total number of training hours, and the course topics covered.
In addition, participants receive a Europass Mobility Certificate, prepared in accordance with the Erasmus+ quality standards. This document records the skills, competencies, and knowledge gained during the course and is fully recognised across Europe, making it a valuable addition to professional portfolios and CVs.
Together, these certificates provide participants with formal recognition of their professional development, supporting further career advancement, mobility opportunities, and validation of newly acquired competencies within their educational or professional institutions.
